Hi. I love reading old newspapers. There’s all sorts of fascinating things in there: news events featuring people who used to be famous but are now forgotten, odd bits of filler, and so much more. This blog features screen captures of old newspaper articles and relevant bits of research when appropriate.
The source for these articles is the ProQuest Historical Newspapers collection of old editions of the Toronto Daily Star and Globe and Mail. This is available for free to anyone with a valid Toronto Public Library card. (Libraries are good things!) There’s also material from the Digital Toronto City Directories, which are wonderful.
The past was an interesting (and sometimes sad) place, and I hope you enjoy seeing bits of it here.
