Grand opening

Here’s an advertisement from the January 14 1926 edition of the Toronto Daily Star for the opening of a new restaurant across the street from Simpson’s.

The 1926 Toronto city directory does not list the Mae Belle Tea Room, but the 1927 directory has a listing for Mae Belle Limited at 167 Yonge. The restaurant lasted partway through the Great Depression: the 1933 directory lists it, but the 1934 directory does not. The Streets section of the 1934 directory lists 167 Yonge as vacant.
